V. Overcoming Necrophobia

V. Overcoming Necrophobia

Based on http://clarkvlemuels.blogspot.com (2006) the author would like to suggest the following suggestion in order for the reader to over come necrophobia.
We actually fear the things that we are not certain of. We fear the things that we have no knowledge about. That is why the author only suggests the single word- preparation.

To overcome the fear of death, there should be preparation on your death. Preparation in the sense that there should be certainty and assurance on the things that will take place after dying.

While a person is still alive he or she should already prepare himself for the pain that death can bring. In order to spare from experiencing an excruciating death, a person should live his life well without the vices and the harmful things that can bring disease to the human body. This means that we should live a healthy lifestyle for us to avoid suffering long term sickness. Proper diet is also recommended in order to avoid sickness like diabetes and cancer.

While alive, someone should also settle things concerning his or her obligations with his family, friends and love ones. Among the Filipinos it is but a reality to accept that the lives of our family members is just temporary. It is therefore wise to accept that everyone dies. By this, the fear is terminated. Death is inevitable and our responsibilities towards our family, friends and loved ones are also temporary.

And most importantly in order for someone to overcome the fear of death, while still alive and breathing a right thinking individual should be sure what should be his or her personal eternal destiny after dying. In order for someone to overcome the fear of death there should be certainty on this spiritual aspect. After dying, merely everyone wants to go to heaven. Someone cannot help but think of his or her eternal destiny after death.

The fear of going to hell is also related with the fear of death. People joke about heaven and hell but actually heaven and hell are no joke. It is an important issue where there is no room for humor and uncertainties. Someone cannot help but think the possibilities of going to hell after dying. This spiritual topic of heaven and will always accompany with the fear of death. Unless someone is not sure that he or she would go to heaven after dying, the fear of death will always haunt him. No matter how someone denies to himself or herself the reason why he or she fears dying, it will always go back to this spiritual aspect.

The assurance is very important in the talks about death and especially on the issue about the fear of death. While alive, a right thinking person should already have the assurance of going to heaven after dying. Without assurance there will always be fear. After all, according to Hebrews 9:27 in the Bible, “Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment.”
